"Keep Calm and Carry On" is probably a slogan you have been seeing a lot of lately, but why? Where did the saying even come from? The slogan was created by an unknown civil servant of the British crown in 1939. It was to serve as a poster to be issued during World War II by the British Government. The "Keep Calm and Carry On" poster was the finally instalment in a series of three posters. This last poster was only to be seen by the public in the worst case
scenario...invasion by the Nazis. So only a few "Keep Strong and Carry On" posters were ever distributed, which led to the slogan being almost completely forgotten until 2000 when a man found the old poster in a box of books he had bought at an auction.
Now the "Keep Calm and Carry On" slogan can be seen in a variety of places in and outside of Britain. The United States Embassy in Belgium even has one of the posters hanging on the wall. The slogan has been adopted by many organizations and individuals, because it has the power to band people together. "Keep Strong and Carry On" is a timeless slogan that can apply to everyone. That is why it has become so popular, showing up on everything from t-shirts to mugs, and even doormats. It has even inspired a variety of parodies, "Now Panic and Freak Out" being one of the most popular.
